LAKEPORT — Clear Lake High School”s tennis team scored its first 5-0 win of the year on Monday by beating the Cloverdale Eagles in a Coastal Mountain Conference match at Lakeport.
“I was proud of the whole team,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said of the whitewash.
The Cardinals won all five matches with ease, beginning with KC White”s 6-3, 6-1 victory over Fred Westenburg in first singles. Nate Seacrest defeated Alex Russo 6-0, 6-1 in second singles, and Humberto Perez made quick work of Joe Wills in third singles, 6-1, 6-1.
“Humberto did a really nice job,” Hayes said. “He came through for us.”
In doubles action, Tony Valdez and Hay-den Gilbert beat Nikki Bernstein and Sal Mendoza 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles, and Darcy McCarrick and Claire Mansell were 6-2, 6-1 winners over Jesus Cardenas and Amanda Mittelstadt in No. 2 doubles.
Clear Lake closes out the regular season today in Middletown. The CMC Championships are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa.
