NAPA — Minus their three seniors, the Kelseyville Knights fell 11-1 to Justin-Siena High School of Napa in a non-league softball game Saturday in Napa.
“They all had pre-college stuff to do,” Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti said of his seniors. “It was a good chance for the freshmen (of which the Knights have six) to see how fast and hard the game comes at them at this level.”
Justin-Siena jumped on the Knights for eight first-inning runs and led 10-0 after two innings.
“We settled down after that eight-run inning and actually didn”t look too bad,” Giusti said. “But in the first we looked like deer caught in the headlights.”
Jillian Allen took the loss in the five-inning game, which was called early because of the 10-run rule. She went the distance, striking out one and walking eight.
Six different Knights had one hit apiece — Allen, Monique Santana, Ashley Mueller, Ty Van Housen, Kyra Rudnick and Kenzy Gould.
Kelseyville is 5-8.
