CLEARLAKE ? The Clearlake City Council denied a request by the Zeier Family Trust for purchase of their property on Ballpark Avenue in Clearlake. The Zeier family was asking in excess of a million dollars for property appraised at about $40,000.
The council had no trouble denying the request and did so without any discussion among the panel.
The Zeier family had suggested that the city use the property for parking at the baseball field. The family claims that constant parking in front of their home, located at 14935 Ballpark Avenue, impedes views of a nearby crosswalk causing a concern for safety.
“When people park here, they block the view of the crosswalks, sidewalk areas and make the street so narrow it no longer has room for two-way traffic,” Elizabeth Zeier states in a letter to the council. “Liability is eminent and we are stressed to our limit.”
The Zeiers stated that they feel that the property is worth $900 to $1,000 a week as a vacation rental and therefore contend that $1,332,000 is a fair price. According to a Lake County Assessor Doug Wacker”s property detail, the total value of the property is $43,755.
After hearing heated comments from Kevin Zeier, the council quickly moved to deny the request.
