NICE ? According to a press release provided by Public Information Officer Tanguay of California Highway Patrol (CHP), on Sunday at approximately 10:12 a.m., Robert Sherman, 55, from Nice was riding his bicycle southbound on Lakeview Drive. He was riding his bicycle down a hill toward Sayre Street.

Jason Horton, 29, from Nice was driving his 1976 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Sayre Street approaching Lakeview Drive at approximately 20 miles per hour. Sherman didn”t yield to the through traffic and hit the front passenger side corner of the pickup. Sherman sustained head trauma due to the collision and was flown by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial hospital.

While at the hospital Sherman was placed under arrest for riding a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol.

The occupants of the pickup truck were not injured. Officer Richey is investigating this collision. Sherman was treated and released from the hospital.

“If Sherman had been wearing a helmet it”s possible the injuries wouldn”t be as extensive,” Officer Tanguay said.
