LAKEPORT ? An attempted break-in early Saturday morning was the third incident at Lakeport Express on Main Street in Lakeport in less than two years, according to Lakeport Police Department (LPD) Lt. Brad Rasmussen.
LPD officers responded to investigate an alarm activation at the gas station at 4 a.m., according to Rasmussen. He said the glass in the store”s left, front door was shattered, but the suspect did not enter the store or take any property. Rasmussen said the suspect left when the alarm sounded.
“We did get some surveillance video of the suspect attempting to break into the building. The Express mart does have a quality video surveillance monitoring system and it”s likely we could capture images of a suspect attempting to break into this location,” Rasmussen said.
Approximatly $750 worth of merchandise was stolen from the store in an October 2007 break-in, according to Rasmussen. He said two 18-packs of beer were stolen in a November 2008 break-in, one Coors and the other Tecate. Both incidents occurred at night, he said.
“We”ve got some leads that may lead to the identification of suspects on this current case, and we are following up on those as well as doing extra patrol in the area at night,” Rasmussen said.
