LAKEPORT — Liz Sanderson didn”t allow a runner past second base while tossing a one-hit shutout on Tuesday as the Clear Lake Cardinals blanked the St. Helena Saints 12-0 in a North Central League I South softball game at Lakeport.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

“Probably the most complete game we”ve played for pitching, defense and hitting,” Clear Lake coach Gary Pickle said.

Clear Lake improved to 3-1 in the South standings and 14-4 overall.

Sanderson struck out six and walked two. She allowed a two-out single to Gabby Rulon in the top of the first, but nothing else.

“Liz pitched a good game and we made some nice plays behind her,” Pickle said of the glove work from such players as catcher Mori Jordan, right fielder Vanessa Tullos and center fielder Rebecca Baker.

Clear Lake did all of its scoring in the first three innings, included a seven-run first inning during which the Cardinals sent 11 batters to the plate.

Baker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Rylie Gabehart went 2-for-3 and Emily Wingler went 1-for-1 with a triple and two RBIs.

In other softball action Tuesday:

Cloverdale 13, Upper Lake 2

At Upper Lake, Cherise McEnery and Nikole Karis slugged home runs to center field in Cloverdale”s South win over the Upper Lake Cougars, who held the Eagles scoreless the first two innings.

Cloverdale broke things open with an eight-run top of the third and the game was stopped after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Rebecca Swaney went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Upper Lake, now 0-3 in the South and 5-6 overall.

Middletown 9, Lower Lake 3

At Lower Lake, with teammate Brianna Doyle out of the hospital and watching from the Middletown bench, tAlicia Siri launched a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning as the Middletown Mustangs broke open a close game to beat the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I North action.

Middletown (2-2, 7-8) entered the sixth leading 4-3. Siri”s blast capped a five-run inning. She also had two doubles and four RBIs overall.

Kim Nielsen and Holly Hough each went 2-for-4 to back the pitching of Jen Emberson, who went the distance, striking out three and walking three.

Mirella Valencia and Ashley Willard each went 2-for-4 with a RBI for Lower Lake (1-3, 5-11). Both of Valencia”s hits were doubles.

Doyle was hurt in an outfield collision on April 21 during a game against Fort Bragg. She was flown by REACH helicopter to the U.C. Davis Medical Center and wasn”t released until Friday morning.

Losing pitcher Kristen Garcia struck out six and didn”t walk a batter. All five of the runs she allowed in the sixth were unearned.

“She pitched well enough to win,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said.
