KELSEYVILLE — Ashley Mueller”s RBI single with out one out in the bottom of the seventh inning capped Kelseyville”s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Lower Lake Trojans on Thursday in a North Central League I North softball game at Kelseyville.
Mueller”s game-winning hit concluded a two-run seventh for the Knights (4-2 North, 8-12 overall). Lower Lake, leading 2-0 going into the sixth inning, dropped to 1-5 and 5-14.
Jenn Asbury”s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth cut Lower Lake”s lead to 2-1. In the seventh, Monique Santana ignited the Knights” rally with a lead-off single and Megan Andre sacrificed her to second base. Skyler Olsen followed with a RBI single to center field to knot the game at 2-2. After a single by Sarah Johnson moved Olsen to second, Mueller singled home Olsen.
“They”re a better team than their record suggests,” Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti said of the Trojans, who the Knights needed nine innings to beat 7-3 back on April 21 in Lower Lake. “They”re a tough little team.”
“We played a game to be proud of,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said. “We had no mental errors.”
Lower Lake scored both of its runs in the top of the third. Mirella Valencia doubled home the first run and then scored on a single by Danielle McKay.
Winning pitcher Jillian Allen worked all seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Losing pitcher Kristen Garcia also went the distance, striking out two and walking six.
Allen, Santana and Olsen had two hits apiece for the Knights, who close out their league schedule next week with road games at Middletown (Tuesday) and Fort Bragg (Friday).
