CLEARLAKE ? A Clearlake man was arrested Wednesday on several firearm charges after allegedly discharging a gun in the direction of several subjects in the Clearlake Park area. Charles Edward Berry, 20, was taken into custody without incident when officers reportedly forced entry into the residence in which he was located.
Berry was charged with negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon and exhibiting a firearm. He was transported and booked into Lake County Jail.
According to Clearlake Police Lt. Mike Hermann, Berry reportedly discharged the firearm in the direction of several subjects on 9th Street after being yelled at as he drove past them and several children. He reportedly stopped a short distance away, pulled the firearm from his waistband and fired at least two rounds in the direction of the group. No injuries were reported.
Hermann said that Berry left the location but was later seen at his father”s residence on 9th Street where officers forced entry into the location. Officer located Berry inside the residence and arrested him without incident.
According to Hermann, officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and located a loaded H&R .22 caliber revolver in the rear bedroom. “During later conversations with the homeowner, it was determined that the weapon (found to match witness descriptions) did not belong in the residence,” he said.
