ST. HELENA — Eric Schenck couldn”t find the plate and the Middletown Mustangs couldn”t find the win column on Thursday, falling to the St. Helena Saints 7-5 in a North Central League I interlock varsity baseball game at St. Helena.
Schenck struck out five but also walked eight in four-plus innings as Middletown fell to 11-8 overall.
“You walk eight guys and you”re not going to win ballgames,” Middletown coach Mitch Tucker said. “He couldn”t find his command and he was missing up.”
Schenck missed up to Colton Dorman in the bottom of the first and Dorman smacked a two-run homer to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. They added two more runs in the second to make it 4-0.
Eric Tomko and Johnny Harmyk tried to rally the Mustangs with back-to-back solo home runs in the sixth.

At St. Helena, the Middletown Mustangs resembled more of a M*A*S*H* unit in their non-league loss to the St. Helena Saints, who 10-runned the Mustangs in five innings.
Middletown (8-9) took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the third inning, but the Saints erupted for nine runs and never looked back.
“I don”t even know what happened,” Middletown coach Lisa Rogers said. “We have five girls on antibiotics right now (because of strep throat) and I was down to my third-string catcher today, so it wasn”t great. Hopefully we”re in better shape tomorrow.”
Sara Lofton, Alicia Siri and Jessica Roush each had two hits for Middletown.
