What will their next move be?

Regarding the case of Bismark Dinius, the stench coming from the Lake County Sheriff”s Department and the office of the district attorney grows more foul by the day. Within hours of this tragedy it was obvious that the big cover-up was in effect and the authorities were circling the wagons to protect one of their own. Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of maritime law knew that Deputy Perdock was clearly at fault in this accident, for all of the reasons cited in Captain Kremer”s letter to the editor on May 8, along with a number of others. But, in spite of this, Lake County authorities mounted a full-court press to shift the blame to Dinius. Now the D.A.”s office has attempted to impose a media gag order which your newspaper ? and others I hope ? have rightly protested. It is clear they are hoping to bury the details of this case as far away from public view as possible.
I suspect their next move will be to ask for a change of venue to some landlocked area where there are fewer experienced boaters ? power and sail ? than in Lake County, where many of our citizens have taken Coast Guard Auxiliary and Boat U.S. training courses, and therefore know about most of Sheriff Perdock”s boating transgressions. In the meantime we, the taxpayers, are forced to pay for this outrageous and unfair legal action. Maybe it”s time we started paying closer attention to both our elected and appointed officials.
