The Lakeport Women”s Civic Club is a non-profit organization that is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers whose purpose is to raise funds for community projects. Our premise is to serve in ways that will make our community a better place for all citizens. Our philanthropic contributions include monies for scholarships, city beautification, senior projects, children”s activities and historical education.

Our two vocational studies scholarships of $1,000 are offered annually. We deliver packets to the local high schools, colleges and continuation schools. These packets were delivered to the schools in January. An article was put into the Record-Bee on Feb. 6 announcing the scholarships.

The criteria for applying are as follows. You must be a Lake County resident, a full-time student, have a 2.75 GPA in all course work, provide us with a list of all work and community involvement experience, state your reason for applying for the scholarship and why you”ve chosen this particular field. Also, we request two letters of recommendation, one preferably from an employer. The deadline for these applications was April 17.

This year we delivered packets to Upper Lake High, Clover Valley High, Clear Lake High, Natural High, Legacy School, Lower Lake High, Middletown High, Loconoma Valley High, Carle High, Mendocino College and Yuba College.

We received 17 applications this year from the following schools; eight from Kelseyville High, two from Mendocino College, two from Yuba College, one from Middletown High, three from Upper Lake High, and one from Lower Lake High.

In writing this article our goal is to let all of these schools and students know that we offer these scholarships each year. We thought by writing this letter it would inform all of the students of this scholarship. We are hopeful that next year we will receive more applications from each school that were provided the packets.
