CLEARLAKE — In their final game of the season, the Middletown Mustangs clinched a tie for the North Central League I North junior varsity baseball championship with a 9-4 victory over the Lower Lake Trojans in Clearlake.
Middletown wraps up the season at 6-2 in the North and 15-4 overall. The winner of today”s season finale between Kelseyville and Fort Bragg will share the title with the Mustangs, according to Middletown coach Charles Russ.
“That”s not a bad baseball season,” Russ said of the Mustangs” record in 2009. “For a JV program, that”s not too bad.”
Russ started a handful of reserves for the final game of the season and they all played at least five innings.
Connor Chick pitched all seven innings to notch the victory. He struck out three and didn”t walk a batter. He also went 1-for-3 with a RBI at the plate.
“He had really good control,” Russ said of Chick. “You throw strikes and good things will happen. He did a great job.”
Austin Hunter went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Middletown, Jonathan Tanguay doubled home a run, Andy Garcia went 1-for-2 with a double, and Cody Rains went 1-for-2.
