By Diane M. Davis ? letters to the editor

I would like to commend Karen Tait, M.D., for her article concerning the swine flu on May 6. She took care to emphasize that, even though case numbers seem to be rising quickly, this increase has more to do with advancing testing technologies than the actual number of cases.

It has been my observation that many people accept what they see in print or hear on the radio or television as gospel without first taking the time to wonder what could be behind the report. Dr. Tait”s repeated emphasis on what can cause increases in the number of disease cases could be very beneficial in stemming the amount of panic that can arise around news of epidemics and pandemics. I thank her for the article that she wrote and pray that all the subscribers will read it.
