Why did the bear cross the road?
LAKE COUNTY ? A brown bear was reportedly struck by a vehicle at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday. The bear reportedly ran from the scene and was not located.
According to California Highway Patrol, Clear Lake area Information Officer, Steven Tanguay a 16-year-old girl driver from Gerber was traveling northbound on Highway 29 with a 17-year-old girl as her passenger, both from Red Bluff. The bear reportedly ran out in front of the black Chevy Camaro the girl was driving just south of Hoffacker Lane. The bear was reportedly struck by the front of the car.
“The two juvenile females were driving down the road and the bear ran out in front of them. He did a couple of barrel rolls and then ran off,” Tanguay said. “The bear was not located.”
Officer Tanguay further reported that although the girls did express complaints of pain, neither were transported for medical attention.
