MIDDLETOWN — The Cloverdale Eagles, playoff tested for years under the leadership of longtime head coach Margaret Fitzgerald, made quick work of the Middletown Mustangs on Wednesday in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division IV softball playoffs at Middletown.

Cloverdale rolled to an 11-1 victory in a game called after 4 ? innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. The Eagles, the No. 7 playoff seed, were actually the home team for the game. They improved to 16-8 and will play No. 2 seed Moreau Catholic in the quarterfinals Saturday at 5 p.m. in Hayward.

Middletown, the No. 10 seed, closes out the season at 12-10.

The Mustangs won the North Central League I North title in head coach Lisa Rogers” final season. They had won four straight and seven of eight going into Wednesday”s game.

Game results were not reported to the Record-Bee.
