CLEARLAKE ? The third annual City Council and Public Works Thompson Harbor Beautification Project resulted in the planting of more than 300 colorful flowers.
City officials as well as Second District Supervisor Jeff Smith spent about four hours Thursday planting various blooms, some of which were donated by Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart Store Manager Mike Crowder and Assistant Manager Colleen Lee joined Mayor Chuck Leonard and his wife Vicki; Vice Mayor Judy Thein and Councilmember Curt Giambruno; Public Works Superintendent Doug Herren and Parks division employee Javier Macias; Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain and Lt. Craig Clausen; and Supervisor Smith at Redbud Park where they spent all morning digging and planting flowers.
The project”s timing was strategically planned to coincide with the initiation of the tourist season.
“We want to do this every year and we hope that council members in the future will continue this effort,” Vicki Leonard said.
Wal-Mart donated 210 seedlings to the project, which project contributors personally selected earlier that morning. Three additional flats were purchased through the city”s Parks and Recreation budget.
