UPDATED:

LAKE COUNTY? One week ago today, Beau Bastian and Jordan Mills of the Lost Boys took a walk to the dock at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa to catch some fish with found tangled line before performing the first of five concerts in three days.

“This guy with tattoos, about 40 years old, cruises by us on a skateboard and asks if we”re in the band the Lost Boys,” Bastian said. “I told him ?yeah” and he said we”re good. He offered to let me try out his skateboard and said he was in a band too, the Gin Blossoms. I should have asked him to go fishing with us. We are excellent fishermen!”

After catching a bass apiece, Bastian and Mills joined Thomas Cano, Matt Weiss and Gary Boyd to open for Tonic and the Gin Blossoms in the Joe Mazzola Indoor Showroom. Bastian, the singer, began to lose his voice during the first show. “I”m just going to rest and drink tea,” Bastian said.

The next day the band would play a show at the Hard Rock Caf? in Sacramento and then head over to Raley Field to play an outdoor stadium show.

“I can”t believe that just five months ago I was playing guitar in my room and this weekend we will open for Journey in front of about 12,000 people,” Boyd said.

The boys experienced touring life in a way that resembled baptism by fire.

Weiss was sick with the flu and couldn”t ride in a vehicle with his bandmates.

Greg Bennett, president and CEO of Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa, is managing the band and traveled with the teens, missing his first show ever in more than 20 years at the resort.

REO Speedwagon, Styx and .38 Special were slated to kick off the outdoor season. A safety issue with the stage resulted in the show”s cancellation.

“We found out about the cancellation before we went on with Journey, we felt bad for Greg, like we were keeping him from his business. He handled it really well. That guy is the coolest in the world to us,” Boyd said.

Once the band took the stadium stage, everything fell into place.

“There were so many faces and I couldn”t make out any of them. It was like a blur. We we”re so high up and it almost felt like a red carpet kind of thing,” Mills said.

Bastian said it was amazing to meet Journey and have the band compliment the Lost Boys” talent.

“Arnel Pineda, the singer, told me, ?I don”t drink or do drugs, I just take the music pill,” and then I realized he was a lot like us,” Bastian said. “He was so cool and so humble.”

The Lost Boys performed five songs at Raley Field and after that show jumped into the limousine en route back to Lake County for another show. They slept all the way and we”re awoken by a voice saying ?Wake up, you”re on in 10 minutes.”

The band performed another show on Sunday for Rock Shop II.

All five boys said that as exciting as it was to travel to new venues, it was great to be back with their Lake County fans and friends.

“I didn”t know I could be so tired and have that much fun all at one time. We”re at a whole new level. This is the best we”ve sounded yet,” Cano said.

The band will have nearly a month before the next show and then will play numerous shows through October.
