LOWER LAKE — County staff and Mt. Konocti volunteers are hosting a continued series of hearings to assist in the development of policies and procedures, and resource and fire management plans for the use of Mt. Konocti which will, in turn, be used to create a Master Plan.

Public meetings take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, June 10 and 24, at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum, 16435 Morgan Valley Road in Lower Lake.

County staff and Mt. Konocti volunteers need local residents” ideas to help create the Mount Konocti Master Plan. Through a series of public meetings, the county will develop policies and procedures, as well as resource and fire management plans for the use of Mount Konocti.

Restrictions that come with the sale of the property that county staff supports include day use only (except by special arrangements), no motorized vehicles (except by authorized use), preservation and conservation.

County staff wants to have the Master Plan decided on prior to opening the trails to the public later this year or early 2010.

Initial meetings have already taken place in Lakeport in March, but are now moving to the southern portion of the county for continued input. At the conclusion of these meetings, the county will begin refining the input given from its initial meetings with a workshop sometime in the early fall.
