I just wanted to concur with Cynthia Parkhill”s article on long- term RV parking. We are “empty nesters” and have a big house we don”t need with maintenance we can”t afford. We would much prefer a more mobile lifestyle. Perhaps half a dozen lots scattered around the country where we could park for a few months on each before moving on to the next, depending on weather, etc. We own an acre in California Pines but are only allowed a 30-day per year stay there.
The Bureau of Land Management allows long-term RV parking for a nominal fee of about $100 a year and has had no significant problems or situations resulting from this policy. Snow birders take advantage of the program by the thousands and bring massive economic benefits to Yuma, Arizona and similar locations.
We here in Lake County could reap significant economic stimulation from an RV-friendly policy. With large lakes and proximity to some of the nation”s most beautiful shoreline highways, we could attract a substantial share of the snowbird migration.
