LAKEPORT ? Lakeport”s only skateboard park is open and under the management of Lakeside Lanes after financial difficulty forced the shift, according to the skate park”s former owner, Jason Capri.

Capri said the fees skaters pay to use the facility, housed inside the bowling alley, weren”t enough to cover the businesses” overhead. Capri said he gave the park to the bowling alley in order to keep it open, and moved the skateboarding merchandise to a new location on Main Street.

Lakeside Lanes General Manager Ray Kettle said the skateboard park will be open during the bowling alley”s regular hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday; 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Kettle said skateboards and helmets are still available to rent, but adult supervision is no longer available. He said children who use the facility need to bring a waiver signed by a parent releasing the bowling alley from liability in case of an accident.

Capri, who took over ownership of the skateboard park last summer, said he still plans to hold events at the facility and possibly conduct fundraisers to build another skateboard park in Lakeport.
