LAKEPORT ? Gabrielle Varney, 19, was sentenced to seven years in state prison Monday for the stabbing death of a fellow W.C. Carle High School student, according to a press release from her defense attorney, Stephen Carter.
Varney and Heather Valdez were juniors at the school when Varney allegedly stabbed Valdez, 17, with a pocketknife after school at a bus stop on June 5, 2008. Varney pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter in April, and faced a maximum of 12 years.
Varney received one and a half years of credit, plus another 15 percent off on the remaining time, according to Carter.
