LOWER LAKE ? Carl? High School honored its Class of 2009 with a graduation ceremony on Wednesday. For some, it was a departure and for others, a brief return as they had submitted their portfolios earlier in the school year.
Principal Ed Zander welcomed the class of 2009, recollecting that some among them had not believed they would achieve this goal. “You are living proof that if you can set your mind to something, you can accomplish what you thought was impossible,” Zander said.
This was Zander”s first graduation as principal of Carl? High School; former principal Bill MacDougall was attending the ceremony in his new capacity as Konocti superintendent.
Class valedictorian Kristina Micheletti wished the Class of 2009, “Happiness and success where ever life takes you.”
Continuing with an annual tradition, the teachers and staff of Carl? presented each graduate with an award that showcased their unique qualities.
The plaques are made each year by Carl?”s school-based enterprise, “Pegasus Promotional Products,” which involves students in the marketing, design and manufacturing of personalized gift items. The school honored the Lake County Wine Alliance, the California School Employees Association, Barry Munitz and Mechelle and Emmanuel Barbara for financing this year”s plaques to honor the Class of 2009.
The Lower Lake Community Action Group awarded scholarships to several Carl? graduates who volunteered at its events during the previous year. The LLCAG”s annual fundraisers, like its cioppino feed, support scholarships for Konocti graduates that assist them in meeting the cost of materials they need when attending college.
Lake County Retired Teachers CRTA Chapter 35 gave special recognition to Carl? senior Taylor Lopez, whose first-place essay in its recent competition honored educator Hazel Wohle. His essay appeared May 29 in the Lake County Record-Bee.
