There have been several letters to the editor recently regarding teacher cuts at the local schools.

It has been many years since I have entered a school classroom, as my children are grown, but I now have a 7-year-old foster child and so have been attending school functions at Kelseyville Elementary with her.

I was very impressed with the dedication of the teachers to the individual students. My second-grader has been making wonderful progress with Mrs. Mosten at Kelseyville Elementary and is now reading at a grade 3.8 level.

There have been suggestions in the past few months regarding changes to the education system. Specifically, I was very intrigued with Lowell Grant”s suggestion that there be one school district for the county. To me, the concept of making cuts at the administrative level and rolling the school districts into one entity for the entire county makes much more sense than cutting much needed teachers. Times are tough, but let”s make the cuts where it hurts the least ? not in the classroom.

Has any progress been made on the concept of one school district for the County of Lake?
