UPDATED:

The California Legislature”s Budget Conference Committee has voted to enact a State Park Access Pass, which would institute a $15 annual surcharge for access to California State Parks.

The California State Parks Foundation reported that the vote took place on Monday, June 15. CSPF proposed last year to institute a surcharge on non-commercial vehicle license fees in order to provide Californians with free day-use access to state parks.

Adoption of a $15 surcharge would gain permanent General Fund savings of approximately $143 million annually according to the CSPF. In exchange for paying the fee, residents driving into state parks with a California license plate would receive free day-use entrance.
