As concerns mount about peak oil production and greenhouse gasses, we continue to squander non-renewable resources on motor sports. The amount of fossil fuel consumed by NASCAR alone must be considerable, not only the race cars themselves, but the teams with trucks and vans that move across the country, as well as the fans that travel to the events with cars and RV”s.

I realize we all need entertainment and diversions, but at some point in the future, the sooner the better, what we consume for amusement must be examined. Every barrel of oil burned now will not be available for the vital necessities we derive from petroleum, not only fuel, but plastics, fertilizer, and pharmaceuticals. There are six thousand products made from petroleum. Our civilization literally runs on oil and we don”t have a replacement. Time to decide how to use what we have left of this precious resource.
