LAKE COUNTY?Soroptimist International of Clear Lake held its 45th annual installation of officers on Thursday. The club installed Fawn Williams as its new president along with eight other administrative officers.
Williams” theme is “With Giving Hearts.” As a reminder of her theme, Williams gave each club member a heart pendent made of jasper. “Jasper is the stone of supreme nurturers, which I feel we are. As women, it is our nature to give to and nurture others. For some of us, this is the reason we joined Soroptimist,” she said. “Jasper is also considered a warrior”s stone and signifies loyalty, inner strength and standing up for what you believe in. As Soroptimist members, we are loyal to and stand up for women and girls.”
On hand to perform the installation was Bobbie Enderlin, founder region district three director. Prior to installing new officers Enderlin recognized outgoing president Arlene Grimes and thanked her for her leadership throughout the past year. “President Arlene, without your enthusiasm and spirit, this club would not be where it is today,” she said.
Embracing Williams” theme, Enderlin said good, solid leaders are those who have heart and offered thoughts on how to have a more giving heart as she installed each of the officers.
“Fawn, you are stepping into a position that requires a person who is able to grasp the situation and be prepared to take action. You will be an essential resource of information and serve as a gateway to the future of the club,” Enderlin said in installing Williams. “Worthy of note are the leadership qualities that you will need as president: wisdom, patience and understanding. As the presiding officer, you must be fair, tactful and just and above all, you will be gentle and kind. Common sense and willingness will carry you far in the development of communication, understanding, participation and a Soroptimist viewpoint.”
Kelley Slater was installed as first vice president. “You have the task of communicating and educating your fellow members in the ways of being a Soroptimist,” Enderlin said. “One of you duties is program planning, which is very important since fulfilling, far-reaching, fund and interesting programs will have a great bearing on the success of the club for this year.”
The honor of second vice president was bestowed upon Kimberly Kent. “One of your duties is chairing the Member Services Committee. As discussed earlier, new members are vital to the long term stability of this club,” Enderlin said.
Other officers who were installed included Marsha Willard, secretary; Christine Scarioni, vice treasurer; Bobbie Rivas, treasurer; Brenda Crandall, public relations officer; and Arlene Grimes and Pam Pitkin, directors. After each of the women accepted the responsibilities of their respective offices, Enderlin offered words of wisdom that reminded the members to lead with their hearts; embrace inner reflection and decide what you want to give; listen to others, forgive and release resentment.
“You are encouraged to do your part by opening your hearts and extending your helping hand to your new leaders,” Enderlin said in addressing the entire membership. “Together you can fulfill Fawn”s heartfelt dream to achieve success and accomplishment for the club as you go forward with giving hearts.”
Three new members were welcomed to the club during the installation luncheon at Howard”s Grotto in Clearlake including Nicole Newton, sponsored by Crandall; Yvonne Jones-Miller, sponsored by Scarioni; and Becky Hiss, sponsored by Lee Ann Bartlett.
The luncheon also included a $360 check presentation to Lake County Community Action Agency (LCCAA) in support of the homeless shelter program.
