There is no reason that the people along the shore and their neighbors have to put up with the algae problem and/or odor it produces. The county has the perfect equipment and manpower required to take care of this problem. No additional costs are necessary.
The county-owned barge and power unit adjusts to different water depths so it can be used to get up to the shore and do a quick job of agitating the algae. Then, a pump can be used to spray the algae with water so it settles to the bottom. The odor goes away immediately.
This equipment is owned by the county, so why is it not being used to take care of the problem? The residents and businesses in the area should be up in arms for this not being done. If immediate action is taken, the area could be cleared by the July Fourth holiday weekend.
Furthermore, weeds could be taken care of in north Clearlake by the same barge, with a few alterations. The barge should be kept on the lake. It is self-powered and can be made available anywhere it is needed within a few hours.
