Fire damage placed at more than $100,000
CLEARLAKE — More than $100,000 in damage was caused as a result of an electrical fire at Kool & Kash market on 40th Avenue in Clearlake. The fire occurred at approximately 2:34 a.m. on Friday.
According to Lake County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Willie Sapeta, suppression efforts were hindered by security bars on the windows and construction altercations to the roof.
The fire was reportedly under control around 4:15 a.m. and units remained on scene until 10 a.m. Response was rendered with two engines, a battalion chief, two medic units, one rescue truck and one water tender. CalFire also provided assistance. A total of 30 personnel were utilized in the suppression effort.
Investigation of the incident indicates that the fire ignited due to an electrical failure within the refrigeration unit. Damage is estimated at $120,000 including loss of merchandise.
