CLEARLAKE OAKS — Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) Clearlake Oaks Station responded to a motorcycle versus vehicle collision on Saturday evening. Additional response was rendered by both CalStar and REACH for aerial transport of two victims involved in the collision.
Alcohol is believed to be related to the collision, which resulted in major injuries to both the motorcycle operator and his passenger.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on East Highway 20 near Harvey Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol Clear Lake area, Alexandra Drew, 21 of Santa Rosa, was traveling westbound on State Route 20 at approximately 40 miles per hour. Drew reportedly allowed the 2005 Honda Civic she was driving to drift onto the right shoulder of the roadway. She overcorrected and traveled across both lanes while rotating counter-clockwise.
The driver of the 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle, identified as Thomas Sperry, 50, of Stockton was traveling eastbound at approximately 40 miles per hour. He reportedly struck the passenger side door of the Honda as it spun in front of him. He and his passenger, identified as Lynda Walker, 53, of Stockton were ejected from the motorcycle and suffered major to minor injuries.
Drew was reportedly determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the incident and was arrested for felony DUI.
The first unit was on scene within two minutes and immediately requested mutual medical response from stations in Clearlake and Lucerne. Lucerne arrived on scene and the other unit was cancelled.
Aerial transport for the Sperry was requested at 6:27 p.m. with CalStar advising a 15 minute Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA). “We knew that we had a compound fracture of his left leg and the possibility of some head injuries,” NFPD Chief Jim Robbins said.
A second air ambulance for Walker was requested at 6:31 p.m. REACH dispatch advised a 30 minute ETA from Santa Rosa, to where the Solano-based aircraft was transporting another patient. “We got REACH 7 out of Solano because our local REACH unit was committed out of county,” Robbins said.
The Sperry was transported via ambulance to the California Department of Forestry (CDF or CalFire) station on Spring Street where ground medics rendezvoused with the CalStar flight team. Walker was also transported from the helipad on Spring Street for major injuries sustained in the collision.
Drew was transported to Lake County Jail and was later released on $10,000 bail.
