LAKEPORT — A bird into a transformer on Hill Road sparked a wildland fire Saturday around 5:55 p.m. The first fire unit on scene reported rapid spread down a slope threatening a structure.

Mutual aid was activated with units from Northshore Fire Protection District and CalFire responding to assist Lakeport Fire Protection District.

By 6:08 p.m. evacuation of Lakeview Terrace Apartments was called for; however, evacuation was quickly changed to “shelter in place” and an air tanker and helicopter dowsed the area with water decreasing the threat to the mobile home park residents.

The fire was reported contained at 6:25 p.m. and all incoming response was canceled with the exception of a CalFire hand crew. Mop up efforts continued until the last crew was released at 7:06 p.m.

PG&E also responded due to the blown transformer.
