CLEAR LAKE RIVIERA ? Fire suppression teams from Kelseyville Fire Protection District (KFPD) responded to Walnut Cove Mobile Home Park in the Clear Lake Riviera Sunday evening for a report of smoke and possible structure fire. Damage was minimal and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Response was requested at 5:26 p.m. following a report of smoke coming from beneath the deck of a singlewide mobile home located in the park. KFPD Captain Dave Carter reported that there were obstacles in accessing the fire.
“We didn”t have difficulty finding it. We had difficulty getting to it,” Captain Carter said. “It was under the mobile itself. We had to pull the skirting out and crawl to it.”
There was a concern for neighboring residences; however, the fire was contained to single dwelling. “It was in a park so it was a tight space all around,” Captain Carter said. “It was an older mobile so we were afraid if it got going we”d have a bigger incident than we had.”
KFPD responded with one engine and a battalion chief from its Kelseyville station and one engine from the Riviera station.
CalFire responded from its Kelsey Cobb station with one engine as well. The fire was reported contained at 6:13 p.m. and the final suppression unit cleared the scene at 6:41 p.m.
Carter reported that the structure was saved with minimal damage to a closet located in a bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
