LAKEPORT ? Residents of the North Lakeport area who get their water from the Lake County Special District may have noticed a discoloration of their water over the past couple of days. A number of people have contacted the Special District and some have said that their water color is a shade of brown.

According to Pete Preciado, the deputy administrator for the Lake County Special District, there is no reason to be worried about using the water. He said that residents should especially not “turn to other, possibly unsafe, sources, such as untested wells for water while this problem exists.” According to Preciado, the water is safe for all purposes, including drinking. He said, “It has been chlorinated and while it may not be aesthetically pleasing, it is totally safe.”

The coloration problem arose this week when workers performed filter maintenance at the water treatment facility. They are now working at making the necessary adjustments to get the clarity back in the water. Preciado said that they have already been able to decrease the coloration issue by about 50 percent and will complete the adjustments once sample reports come back from the lab they use for water analysis. Preciado said, “Once we get the report back from the lab, we”ll fine-tune our adjustments and get the water clarity back to normal.”
