HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE ? A man and his wife were killed in a traffic collision Saturday on Highway 29 near Hidden Valley Lake. Eugene Klebe, 80, and Pauleen Klebe, 73, of Hidden Valley Lake, died as a result of the two-vehicle collision.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Jon Johnson, 52, also of Hidden Valley Lake, was treated at St. Helena Hospital Clearlake for minor injuries and released.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Clear Lake area, at approximately 10:20 a.m. Saturday, Eugene Klebe, who was driving a 2008 Lincoln MKZ, was stopped at the stop sign on Spruce Grove Road Extension at Highway 29, across from the Hidden Valley Main Gate. Johnson was traveling southbound on State Route 29 at approximately 55 mph in a 2001 Dodge Durango.
According to CHP, Klebe failed to yield the right-of-way to Johnson. He allegedly pulled out onto Highway 29 and into the path of the oncoming Durango. Johnson was unable to avoid a collision and the front of the Durango collided with the left side of the Lincoln.
The Lincoln came to rest blocking the northbound lane while the Dodge came to rest blocking the southbound lane of traffic. Traffic was diverted onto Spruce Grove Road Extension. The collision is under investigation by Officer Steve Curtis. Drugs and/or alcohol are not considered to be factors in the collision.
