I am an older, single woman. On Tuesday, July 21, at about 2 p.m., I was slowly circling the Grocery Outlet parking lot, looking for an easier exit. The lot was roped off and being coated and re-striped. A sheriff”s car suddenly pulled out in front of me in the parking lot. We both slammed on our brakes hard or he would have hit me on the driver”s side.
I could not see your car number sir, but my mind is etched with the look of your face when you stared back at me through our windshields. You most likely were heading to an important call, but you were driving recklessly too fast for a grocery store parking lot, especially with no emergency lights on. Then you paused a second or two and simply drove off without checking to see if I was OK. I was stunned, but felt physically all right.
I was able to drive home, but when I opened my rear car door, I teared up to see the crushed and wet mess that was my groceries on the backseat floor. Because I live on a fixed income, this was my last trip for food to get me through the remainder of the month, until my Social Security comes in August.
You need to be more careful about your driving in busy parking lots. There were families with kids in the store shopping. It could have been so much worse than just my groceries.
