CLEARLAKE – The local church community is uniting today to bring all residents of the area an opportunity to enjoy a day of family unity and entertainment at Austin Park. The sixth annual “Fun in the Son” event promises a variety of family-oriented activities, bounce houses, prizes and access to local resources and ministries.

This year”s event will serve as a fundraiser in benefit of the Lake County Safe House, which celebrated its opening in April. The program provides a short-term residence and a comprehensive program of services for runaway, homeless and “throwaway” youth younger than 18 years of age.

“We have a new approach this year. We are doing a fundraiser for the Safe House,” Brad Wight, event coordinator said. “We are offering vending. So, rather than having free food as we”ve had in the past, we have invited non-profit vendors with the proceeds directed toward the Safe House. We are also invited for-profit vendors and charged a fee, which will also go to the Safe House.”

Fun in the Son will be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, Saturday, at Austin Park in Clearlake. The entire community is invited to share in this celebration of Jesus Christ regardless of religious preference.

Local churches along with other local organizations and contributors are extending their community outreach efforts to bring the Spirit of Jesus Christ directly to the community. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to find spiritual guidance, personal healing and resources for self-improvement programs offered locally.

Youngsters will have a chance to learn about Xtreme Impact, a youth group of First Assembly of God. The group meets weekly at the church located at the corner of 40th and Snook avenues in Clearlake.

According to organizers, Xtreme Impact is a place for youngsters to enjoy food, friends and fellowship. The youngsters, up to age 20, engage themselves in fund-raising activities, outreach and praise and enjoy togetherness by taking field trips to such exciting places as ice rinks, snowy slopes and theme parks.

Healing Rooms of Lake County is expected to be in attendance at the event. Representatives will be offering personal, private and confidential prayer for physical, emotional and spiritual healing for anyone seeking guidance.

Celebrate Recovery is also expected to be on hand to provide the community with insight into its programs, which are offered in several locations including Clearlake, Hidden Valley and Lucerne.

The Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) will once again be offering bike blessings during the event. Members will also provide information on its ministry as well as motorcycle safety. Membership information will also be available. “Our local chapter is called ?Soul Searchers for Jesus.” Our meetings are at 8:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the Alpine Senior Center in Lucerne,” said Wight, who is also a CMA member. “All motorcyclist enthusiasts are invited to join us to share in our like interest and to learn more about building a relationship with Christ. We even invite tricyclists and we will buy you breakfast with your first visit.”

“Machaira,” a faith-based Blues band from the Sacramento Valley will again be joining the celebration. “Sun Catchers” will also be joining. The band is comprised of former professional musicians who now travel the Western United States for the purpose of ministries.

A youth-oriented rock ?n” roll band from Chico will also be performing. “We are really blessed to get ?Armor Under Fire.” They are doing ?Spirit West Coast” in Monterey a week prior to our event,” Wight said.
