UKIAH ? A woman who caused a collision killing herself, another driver and seriously hurting his passenger in May had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood as well as marijuana, California Highway Patrol stated.
Catherine Shaw of Ukiah crossed over the grassy center divide about 6:40 p.m. May 28 going north on Highway 101 near North State Street and slammed into Michael Wayne Berry, killing them both, said Randy England, public affairs officer for CHP Ukiah area. Berry”s passenger, Donna Berry, had a crushed pelvis, liver and abdominal injuries.
Shaw had a blood alcohol content of .22 percent and tested positive for marijuana”s active ingredient, England said. The legal limit for blood alcohol concentration is .08 percent. Shaw”s intoxication caused the head-on collision, England said.
England was not sure whether Donna Berry of Redding recovered.
Michael Wayne Berry tested clean, England said.
“He had nothing in his system,” England said. “He was sober.”
