LAKEPORT? Firefighters heard gun shots Saturday night when responding to a campfire call at Cow Mountain Recreation Area, which led to a man”s arrest for three possibly unrelated felony charges and one misdemeanor, sheriffs reported.

CalFire staff thought the shots were a warning to stay away so they asked the Lake County Sheriff”s Office to send help, said Capt. Jim Bauman of LCSO.

Law enforcement found Salvador Oyervides, 29, of Rohnert Park “passed out” in a vehicle sleeping on a loaded shotgun, Bauman said. Officers are unsure whether he shot the gun alerting firefighters.

Oyervides was booked into jail on suspicion of possession of concentrated cannabis, carrying a loaded firearm in public, committing a felony while armed and public intoxication.

Bauman said people often drink and camp in the area.

“Oh, people go out there to shoot all the time,” he said. “It”s popular.”

CalFire and Lakeport Fire Protection District firefighters were able to respond to the illegal campfires for which they were called, Bauman said.
