LAKE COUNTY ? A wildfire charred 287 acres in the Mendocino National Forest before firefighters contained the blaze Friday.
The Summit Fire burned southeast of the Snow Mountain Wilderness near the Summit Springs Trailhead, about 25 miles west of Stonyford, according the U.S. Forest Service. Terrain is steep and rugged with brush and scattered timber.
The fire sparked Wednesday afternoon for unknown reasons, the forest service reported.
More than 350 personnel worked to squelch the blaze along with four helicopters. Crews are expected to finish mopping up and have the fire controlled today. No roads or campgrounds were closed as of Saturday.
