To the wonderful lady at Renee”s Caf? on May 16 who was the first to ever thank my husband Mike for his service in Vietnam, love and thanks.

My husband and I desperately wanted to see the Moving Wall Memorial in Lakeport. We thought, for some reason, that it was to be there in May. We were excited to see the cars at the fairgrounds, but when we went in we discovered that it was the Home and Garden Show. We asked about the “Wall” and to our dismay the lady knew nothing about it.

We then went to Renee”s Caf? for a late breakfast. We asked the waitress, but she didn”t know anything about it. We asked a family that turned out to be grandparents with their grandkids, if they knew about the “Moving Wall.” The lady said she had read about it and thought it was coming in June. We all continued eating. When they were finished and getting ready to leave the lady stopped at our table and asked if we were veterans. I pointed to my husband. She turned to my husband and said, “I just want to say thank you and we”re glad that you made it back.”

My eyes filled with tears because I knew what this meant to my husband. He was so surprised he didn”t know what to say. They got in their car to leave and Mike said, “I”ve got to thank her.” He ran to the vehicle and said thank you to the lady. He told her, “You are the first to say thanks, thank you very much!”

On that day something changed in my husband ? he”s more open, grateful, proud and honored. I can never thank that lady enough for cracking the hard shell he”s been in for years about his tour of duty in Vietnam.
