LAKE COUNTY — Long after she was established in the music field, Chrissie Hynde, an uncompromising artist, was still “Learning To Crawl.” Now she”s going to “Break Up The Concrete,” at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa, with her band the Pretenders.
Hynde started the band more than 30 years ago and is the sole, original member.
She lived in England for the past 35 years, where she began her career as a journalist, which likely lends itself to her poignantly descriptive, straightforward lyrics.
According to an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Hynde moved back to her childhood home in Akron, Ohio. “All the roads in Akron are made out of red brick. They”re beautiful. I saw that beauty again when I moved back there,” she told the reporter.
The new Pretenders album, “Break Up The Concrete,” has had fans anxiously waiting for six years, but is well worth the wait. There are a dozen songs on the album.
“None of the five musicians who comprise this set of Pretenders has recorded with her before ? but they take to her songs like they”ve been waiting all their lives for this moment,” according to information found at www.thepretenders.com.
The 1980 hit “Brass In Pocket,” a song titled from an expression Hynde heard from a member of a band who was looking for his money, was the seventh video released on MTV. It remains a runaway hit. Hynde, 57, shows no signs of aging or slowing down, still creating original, thought-provoking and powerful sound.
The Pretenders will be featured on Aug. 30 at the Joe Mazzola Indoor Showroom at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa located at 8727 Soda Bay Road. For more information, call (800) 660-LAKE or visit www.konoctiharbor.com.
