LAKE COUNTY? A man was killed as a result of a late morning collision on Thursday. Alcohol and drugs contributed to the crash, according to a press release provided by Steve Tanguay, public information officer for the Clear Lake area, California Highway Patrol (CHP).

At approximately 11 a.m., a 58-year-old man was driving a 1988 Plymouth Voyager southbound on Highway 29 south of Spruce Grove Road South, at approximately 55 miles per hour. Paul Cuschieri, 27, of Guerneville was driving his 2005 Jeep Wrangler northbound on Highway 29 south of Spruce Grove Road south, at approximately 55 miles per hour. The two vehicles collided head on toward the center of the roadway. The driver of the Plymouth Voyager was pronounced dead at the scene. Cuschieri was transported to U.C. Davis Medical Center by REACH helicopter for major injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and the air bags were deployed in the Jeep. Cuschieri was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This collision is still under investigation by Officer S. Curtis. The name of the driver of the Plymouth is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
