LAKE COUNTY ? Public Services Director Kim K. Clymire announced that county staff and Mount Konocti volunteers will hold the last of a series of meetings to begin developing the Master Management Plan for the mountain. The mountain is expected to be open to the public in the spring of 2010 for day use hiking.
The master management plan will aid the county in development of policies and procedures, resource and fire management plans for the use of Mount Konocti. The creation of policies and procedures will be used to create a master plan.
Escrow is scheduled to close by Nov. 15 to acquire the property; contingent on the Board of Supervisors approval on Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m.
Hiking and access to the mountain will be by permit between the close of escrow in November and the official opening of the mountain as an open space park site in the Spring of 2010.
At that time, and if approved, as part of the Master Management Plan, other activities such as horseback riding and non-motorized mountain biking may be permitted.
Initial meetings have already taken place in Lakeport in March and in Lower Lake in June.
The agenda for the upcoming meeting is the same as previous meetings. A volunteer focus group will meet in the fall and winter to address park use, fire management, cultural resources and sensitive habitats.
The focus group will refine the results of the six public meetings held and the feedback from speaking engagements done by county staff.
The final meeting is scheduled for Aug. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 North Forbes St., Lakeport, in the Board of Supervisors Chambers.
