LAKEPORT — With only two races left this season, Outlaw Karts drivers are starting to feel the pressure at Delberts Memorial Raceway in Lakeport.
The points race in each division is very close heading into the stretch, leaving the drivers with almost no margin for error.
The 250 heat race on Sunday produced one of the more spectacular rollovers of the season as Marcus Johnson”s No. 18 car got tangled up with the rear end of another car before hitting a hay bale, which sent Johnson”s machine tumbling across the track. It made two complete end-over-end revolutions before finally coming to rest with the engine still running. Johnson was OK but his kart needed some work before it could compete in the main event later that day.
In other action, Bennett Hoskins, a rookie driver, won the beginner box stock main event; Emily Williams chased down Colby Johnson late in the box stock main event to take the checkered flag; Calvin Hawkins won the 250 main event and his brother, Marty Hawkins, took the checkered flag in the 500 main event.
The next race is Sept. 13
