MENDOCINO COUNTY ? A motorcyclist from American Canyon died after braking and skidding around stopped traffic about 10:10 a.m. Sunday on Highway 101 north of Laytonville. The motorcyclist”s name has yet to be released because next of kin hasn”t been notified, California Highway Patrol reported. The motorcyclist was a 63-year-old man riding a 2007 Yamaha.

The man was driving about 60 mph north on the highway and braked as he approached stopped traffic, CHP said witnesses reported. He skidded around traffic, overturned and ejected himself onto the edge of the road. A helicopter took the motorcyclist to Ukiah Valley Medical Center where the man was pronounced dead, CHP reported. The man was wearing a helmet and protective riding gear.
