LAKEPORT ? With money available, the Lakeport City Council denied one community improvement group”s funding request and gave the lower of the two amounts to another Tuesday.
Mount Konocti Facilitation, a non-profit that helps county businesses, asked the council for $2,500, but the request was denied 2-2. Councilman Bob Rumfelt will bring the item back for consideration at another meeting.
The Main Street Association requested $10,000 to $15,000 and was granted the lower amount with a 3-1 vote. Councilman James Irwin dissented.
Council members agreed unanimously on two issues; a Bevins Street construction study and the consent agenda, at City Council Chambers where councilman Roy Parmentier was absent.
“I”m not feeling real generous is the bottom line,” Irwin said.
The Main Street Association funding pays for an employee to organize events and support businesses, said Richard Knoll, city redevelopment manager.
“My sense is it”s very effective to have a staff person,” Knoll said.
Melissa Fulton, CEO of Lake County Chamber of Commerce, spoke in support of both business groups requested funding.
“I find it unacceptable when the money is there, you said no,” Fulton said.
The council approved the revised Business Loan Stabilization Program 3-1 with Irwin dissenting. The program will give business loans targeted in the $15,000 to $25,000 range with a maximum of $50,000. Rumfelt will serve on the committee with Irwin as an alternate.
Councilors voted 3-1 to tell a real estate agency they”re interested in selling city property for a new courthouse. Councilwoman Suzanne Lyons voted no.
Acting city manager Kevin Burke will bring back the memorandum of understanding between the Lakeport Employees Association and the city at the next meeting so he can change some wording.
The council voted 3-1 to allow the Lakeport Yacht Club to hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday on the lawn between the lake and the Yacht Club. Rumfelt voted no.
Councilors proclaimed Sunday through Sept. 13 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Week in Lakeport.
The council will meet next at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 in City Council Chambers at 225 Park St. in Lakeport.
