CALISTOGA — Midfielders Natalie Diaz and Kelly Wilkinson directed the flow of offense for Middletown in a 4-1 non-league girls” soccer victory over the Calistoga Wildcats on Wednesday in Calistoga.
“They really controlled the right side of the field,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said. “That”s where all of our shots came from on either crosses or breakaways.”
Brittany Cash scored a goal and had an assist, and Diaz, Taylor Sloan and Kiley Agapoff also added goals as the Mustangs improved to 2-0.
Keeper Ashley Lescher just missed a shutout as she blanked the Wildcats until the 78th minute.
“She made five saves and they were all good saves,” Owens said. “The whole team was confident with her back there.”
Standouts on defense for the Mustangs were Katie August and Maddie Kucer, according to Owens. “I”m really excited with our offense but we still need to refine our defense.”
Cash had a hand in both of Middletown”s two first-half scores. She assisted on Sloan”s goal and then scored herself to make it 2-0.
Middletown went up 3-0 on an Agapoff goal in the second half before Diaz scored on a penalty kick.
“We”re slowly coming along,” Owens said. “We have plenty of things to work on.”
Middletown travels to Cloverdale on Tuesday.
