CLEARLAKE ? St. Helena Hospital Clearlake Auxiliary”s silent auction and rummage sale was one of the most successful fundraisers hosted by the organization. More than $1,000 was garnered from the event, which took place Saturday at Queen of Peace Church in Clearlake.

“We”ve been doing really well in the silent auction. We”re up above $769 right now,” Linda Peralta Conway, event chairperson said about an hour before the close of the silent auction.

“I”m hoping for $1,000 and we still just might make it.”

Conway”s faith proved effective with proceeds soaring above and beyond what was expected. People filtered in and out of the church”s community center throughout the day-long event, keeping a watchful eye on the prizes of their choice. Auxiliary member Elaine Thomas had her eye a lovely gemmed turtle broach donated by Clearlake Vice Mayor Judy Thein. At 5 p.m. when the silent auction closed, Thomas exclaimed, “It”s mine!” and took her prize in hand.

Silent auction items that brought in the top bids included a Citizen”s men”s watch donated by retired Army Sgt. Major Maynard Arthur. The item went for $150. Another bidder got a good deal with a two night stay at Robinson Rancheria for $75.

Other favorite items included a collection of Dr. Seuss and other books donated by Carolynn Jarrett; motorcycle helmet donated by Father Ron Serban and framed black and whites of Marilyn Monroe donated by Dr. Whie Oh, cardiologist. “We made over $1,000, which is more than we”ve ever made at a women”s sale,” Conway said. “I think it was the silent auction that did it.”

Proceeds from all auxiliary endeavors are directed toward various hospital needs including the purchase of new equipment. Along with raising money for the hospital, auxiliary volunteers also provide support services for various departments throughout the facility. The auxiliary welcomes men and women of all ages although most volunteers are typically retired.
