The Clearlake City Council voted 4 to 1 to discontinue animal control services starting Nov. 1, 2009. Several concerned citizens spoke on behalf of the animals welfare, but it seemed to be to no avail.
Since that fateful meeting, there have been many rumors flying in the community, regarding the future welfare of Clearlake animals. The most disturbing rumor to me is that loose dogs will now be shot, rather than “wasting” kennel time and money on them. Allegedly, barrels are being placed around town for the bodies of these dead animals. This certainly would save money, wouldn”t it?
I pass no judgment here, only the many “rumor reports” I have received with requests for me to “do something.”
Sorry, I have no such power. I can only say that if I lived in Clearlake, I would be sure my yard was now well fenced and gated ? just in case the rumors have some substance.
