LAKEPORT — Jake Chapin rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown and James McGann ran for another score on Friday night as the Clear Lake High School junior varsity football team shut out Pierce High School 12-0 in its season opener at Don Owens Stadium.
Steven Edwards rushed for 46 yards for Clear Lake (1-0). McGann added 22 yards.
Anchoring the Clear Lake defense were Luke Punzalan with five tackles, Steven Edwards with four tackles and an interception, Travis Helton with three tackles and a sack, Shawn Larson with a sack and fumble recovery, and Michael Reynolds with a fumble recovery.
The Cardinals are back in action this Friday night when they host the Fort Bragg Timberwolves at 5:30 p.m. The varsity game follows at 8 p.m.
