In traveling from Lakeport to Ukiah last week for medical appointments, also included in my trip was a stop at Baskin-Robbins ice cream store. I brought my little ice chest with ice and proceeded to purchase some of their delicious ice cream.
As I counted my money, I noticed I was short $1 and was distressed as I kept sorting through my small change.Standing to my left was a young boy with four quarters in the palm of his hand. He noticed my predicament and leaned over and handed me the four quarters.
I was so stunned and I thanked him profusely. I hugged him and told him what a sweet and wonderful person he was. I also noticed that he had no other money and I asked him if that was all he had. He said that it was and he was planning to buy a drink with it. I quickly said to him, almost in tears, that I could not take his last dollar and proceeded to return it to him.
To my right was a young woman who witnessed this scene and quickly reached over and handed him a $1 bill. Of course, I thanked her.
This whole transaction was such a beautiful example and story of what the generous human spirit can be.
Does this not remind us of the widow”s might in the Bible, when she gave all she had?
These people know the real meaning of giving and receiving. May God bless them!
